John Campbell

John Campbell was a resident of Dundee, Illinois who served as a private in the United States Army during the Civil War. He is recorded among a small group of Dundee men who enlisted in Company B of the Sixty-ninth Illinois Infantry Regiment in the summer of 1862. Known Activities

Campbell served as a private in Company B of the Sixty-ninth Illinois Infantry Regiment, one of at least four Dundee residents to do so. The regiment was organized and mustered into federal service on June 14, 1862, at Camp Douglas, Chicago, for a term of three months. According to the History of Kane County (Joslyn, 1908), the regiment remained on duty at Camp Douglas for the duration of its service, guarding the camp and the Confederate prisoners held there, rather than serving in active field operations.
