Fred Buchert served as President of the Corporation of East Dundee from at least June 1887 — the earliest date recorded in the surviving village record book — through April 1888, when the first annual election installed Charles J. Bethke as the village's first elected President.
Buchert's name appears throughout the founding period of East Dundee's municipal governance. He presided over the adoption of the village's complete body of founding ordinances in June–July 1887, approving each one with his signature as President. His approval of the Board of Trustees Ordinance (July 5, 1887) and the Liquor License and Bonds Ordinance establish him as the executive authority during the formative months of the corporation.
In the first formal election on April 17, 1888, Buchert received exactly one vote for President — a single write-in among 114 total ballots cast, suggesting he was not a candidate for the new elected position. He continued to appear in subsequent meeting records in a supporting role as a longtime community figure.
Buchert's tenure represents a transitional form of village governance: the village operated as an organized corporation with named officers before the state-recognized annual election structure was established.
