Village contractor (1888– ). D.H. Haeger did paid work for the Corporation of East Dundee at least as early as October 1888 ("Brick and Hauling," $6.50), and appears again doing gravel-hauling work through the following spring — the village's Road Commissioner was formally authorized to let him "continue to draw gravel until stopped." This places Haeger's documented relationship with village government several years earlier than previously known.
Millrace owner and the 1893 nuisance case. On January 26, 1893, the Village Board condemned a millrace as a public nuisance — and in doing so, the record reveals for the first time that the millrace was owned by D.H. Haeger. Trustee Fred Rath's motion to condemn and abate passed 6–0; the clerk formally notified Haeger of the condemnation in early February 1893. Rather than contest it, Haeger responded constructively: on April 1, 1893, he offered in writing to "fill up the approaches and construct the culvert in Maiden Lane free of charge, after the corporation has placed the culvert pipe." The board accepted, agreeing to furnish the tile and build a bridge over the Maiden Lane creek crossing under the Superintendent of Streets. (Full detail: 1890-1893-east-dundee-village-governance.)
This millrace may be the same waterway at the center of the earlier Charles Nolte pollution/sanitation dispute (1887–1888) and a March 1889 board discussion about the village buying the millrace outright for $1,000 — the ownership chain between Nolte, a possible interim period, and Haeger's confirmed 1893 ownership is not yet fully reconciled from the record book alone.
Finance Committee (previously the earliest known reference, now superseded in date). A separate financial ledger (the Treasurer's Account Book, c.1889–1893) shows D.H. Haeger connected to Finance Committee work — this had been the earliest documented link between the Haeger family and village governance until the October 1888 contractor billing and the 1893 millrace case were transcribed from Vol. 1 directly.
1904 biographical listing. Haeger is recorded in the biographical sketches section of the Historical Encyclopedia of Illinois and History of Kane County (1904), which arranged entries alphabetically and included individuals considered notable within the county at that time.
